All components for sustainable building, timber excels as the only major renewable material. Every cubic meter of wood has absorbed one ton of carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases, while it produced 700 kilos of oxygen*. Of course, this all happened when the wood was still pertaining to a tree. But just how environmentally responsible is it to cut trees and turn them into venetian blinds. Unlike other building materials, trees can be planted and therefore ‘regrown’.

Hunter Douglas has chosen to join the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) system for certifying products like wood venetian blinds.

A number of our products carry the FSC label and are independently certified to assure consumers that the wood comes from forests that are managed in such a way as to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

From the forest to our factory, all parts of the supply chain are checked by the FSC organisation. FSC certification for wood is part of Hunter Douglas’ commitment to a more sustainable world and to the conservation of the world’s forests.
